He'd want us to work like hell to make sure Martha Coakley wins his Senate seat on January 19th.
It's time to hit the phones!
Where the race stands
Recent polls are showing mixed results. A PPP poll out yesterday freaked everyone out when it showed Brown with a +1 lead. Today's new Globe poll shows comfortable (+15) lead for Coakley.
So is Coakley in a good position or in trouble? IMO, she is likely to win. But that doesn't mean that she can't lose -- she can. As we all know, special elections are difficult to predict; turnout is generally very low and the final result comes down to GOTV.
pollster.com says: The big spread in results among the polls, and differences apparent within two of them, are all consistent in supporting one finding: The lower the turnout, the better the odds for Scott Brown.
This is where we can make a difference -- getting our voters out to vote on election day.
Republicans are putting a lot of effort and money into this race. They are energizing anti-health reform voters by dubbing this race the last chance to stop the health care bill. And the teabaggers are doing their part to help Brown win.
We can't let them outmaneuver us on the ground.
It's time to step up show that the netroots is willing to walk the walk. As msblucow said so well: We can't blog our way out of this.
Get started now!
Here's what you do: Go to the Organizing for America website and sign up for an account if you don't already have one. (If you were registered on the Obama for America website during the campaign, your old login should still work -- click the "login" button at the top right of the page).
To start making calls from home right away, go to this page and click on the link provided.
OFA makes it easy to make calls on your own from home, but a lot of us find that it's more fun to phonebank with others.
If you'd prefer to have some company when you call, try searching for a phonebanking event in your area. Just go to the events search page (If the link doesn't work, go to your main homepage and click on the "find events link in the right column).
If you don't find a phonebank near you, set something up! You can do that by clicking on the "Host an event" link. Even small groups of two or three can make a big difference and it's great to have the support and camaraderie of other volunteers. If attendees bring their own laptops and you have a venue with wifi, they can all work from their own accounts. If not, follow the instructions on the site to print out paper lists for everyone and be sure to enter the data afterward.
You can find more about where the candidates stand on the issues here.
Let's win this! Let's do this for Teddy...and for our future.
Thank you, Senator Kennedy for your tireless work to make this country better. I hope that our efforts make you proud -- not just today, or this week, but in the months and years to come. We love you and we miss you.
I'd like to give a big thanks to calchala and msblucow who got the ball rolling yesterday with diaries urging people to Get Out The Vote, and to slinkerwink who continued the effort this morning. Let's keep it going!
UPDATE: I didn't get a chance to check out Frederick Clarkson's terrific diary until after I posted this one. If you haven't read it, you should. We've got a lot of work to do beyond 1/19.
