Christine Whitman has a good op-ed in the NYT:

Unlike O'Neill, she's still trying to play nice with the Bushies, and trying to persuade them to not lose sight of the moderates. Perhaps she's playing good cop to O'Neill's bad cop?
One of several interesting statements: "We find ourselves in this situation in part because we too often follow the advice of political consultants to appeal not to a majority of the electorate but only to the most motivated voters -- those with the most zealous, ideological beliefs. Both parties now concentrate largely on turning out greater numbers of their most fervent supporters."
I don't agree with most of her points, of course, but I enjoyed reading a Republican op-ed that was thoughtful and reasonable. I think one could have an intelligent discussion with her.
