I called Ron Wyden's D.C. office in the past hour to inquire whether or not Ron Wyden was supporting anyone in the election for U.S. Senator from Connecticut. The staffer with whom I spoke informed me that the Senator did not have a formal position on the race.
I asked him if Senator Wyden had any plans to announce an endorsement, and the staffer told me he did not know one way or the other. I asked the staffer what my options were for registering my opinion. He told me that I could do one of two things: (1) I could leave my opinion with him, or (2) write him a letter to which he would respond. I told the staffer that I wanted to give my opinion now, namely, that I urged him to support the winner of the Democratic primary in Connecticut. I am planning on writing him a letter as well.
Now that the primary is over, I do think it is important that Democratic elected officials offer their support to the winner of the Democratic primary. For this reason, I wanted to encourage fellow Oregonians to call Senator Wyden's office and politely urge him to support the winner of the Democratic primary in CT in the general election this fall. The number for Senator Wyden's office is (202) 224-5244.
Update: According to a recent post by Torrid at Loaded Orygun (http://loadedorygun.blogspot.com/2006/08/wyden-backs-lamont-in-general-election.html), spokesman Geoff Stuckart in Senator Wyden's Portland office has made the following statement: "As Vice-Chair of the DSCC, Senator Wyden will support the Democratic nominee, Mr. Lamont."
Thank you, Senator Wyden.
