Republicans trotted out five familiar faces the Sunday talk shows yesterday (Senators McConnell, McCain, DeMint, Hatch, and Cornyn) and they all had the same message: now that Republicans have won 41% of the seats in the U.S. Senate, it's time for Democrats to kill health care reform bill and start over.
According to Republicans, if Democrats would just agree to "start over," then Republicans will support health care reform this time. Hah! Why would anyone want to start over, especially when they were part of the process to begin with? And even if we did, why would we take them seriously? Remember, it was Republicans who decided to take the "just say no" approach to things, a decision that became evident after they voiced solidarity with the teabagging death panel town hallers last August.
We've spent enough time on health care reform. Congress should pass the Senate bill and improve it by reconciliation. Republicans are crazy to think the process needs to be dragged out any longer and Democrats shouldn't follow their advice.
