Politico is mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore:
Politico editor John Harris is pushing back hard on criticism of his publication for providing a frequent, often uncritical platform to Dick Cheney, claiming in an email to me that “trying to get newsworthy people to say interesting things is part of what we do.”
Great. But that's not the issue. The fact that Politico offers Cheney an unlimited and unchallenged platform to spew his talking point in their news section is the issue.
Case in point, from a December 1, 2009, Politico article:
Cheney was asked if he thinks the Bush administration bears any responsibility for the disintegration of Afghanistan because of the attention and resources that were diverted to Iraq. “I basically don’t,” he replied without elaborating.
And yes, that was interesting, but only because the newsworthy ex-Vice President said something so patently ridiculous and demonstrably false. And it ran, unchallenged by the two alleged journalists who wrote the story.
Playing stenographer for the history-revising, agenda-driven Dick Cheney is the issue.
