Well no, lightning did not strike Senator Joe Biden himself, but it did strike his home in Greenville, DE (which is two miles away from me). We here in Delaware did have some massive and destructive storms this morning that forced me from bed at 7 in the morning.
The local news just showed a helicopter shot of the house. The house was not struck directly, but a porch attached to the house by a pool was struck. The strike caused a gaping hole in the roof of the porch and caused a fire in the kitchen area of the home. The fire was contained.
Is God sending us a message?
In other news, yet also related to Biden, my good Senator made an interesting comment this morning on Meet the Press. In response to Russert parrotting the RNC talking point about Democrats winning no states in the South, Biden responded that, no, in fact, Kerry will win certain southern states but then said, "Tell me Tim, which state in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic will Bush win?"
Russert of course ignored the question. But this is a good question. Why do the media concentrate on the South. Absent Florida and Texas (both of which I do not consider 'southern' states), the South contains 100 electoral votes.
The Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast contain 122 electoral votes. I am a Northeastern liberal elitist, and I have always thought that not only am I and my home region culturally and intellectually superior to the South, and now I have proof that we are electorally more relevant than the South.
The cow towing to the South is another form of media whorishness. I say, we crushed the South in the Civil War and had to go back and tell them not to be rascists in the 1950's and 60's. The South has no right to be important, considering that, electorally, they are not important given other regions in the country. (My apologizes to Southern Kossacks).
When will the media ask: Why can't Bush win in the Northeast? Why can't Bush win the West Coast?
