These are desparate and frightening times for those who find themselves under the heel of corporations, bigots and stupid people. There's nothing funny about unemployment, homelessness, lack of equal rights. Powerful people are behind each and every misery millions of Americans are experiencing. Besides being utterly amoral, the fundamental problem with these powerful people is that they have no sense of humor, which, for me, is a fatal flaw.
After reading the comments in Barbara Morill's If you thought the boxers v. briefs argument was bad . . . . I realized that, while we may sometimes bludgeon each other on certain issues, in the end, we have a sense of humor. The Tea Party formally known as the GOP does not. Let's use one of our greatest assets to GOTV.
Dan Savage is not only hilariously funny, he is one of the most critical voices in the LGBT community as to why it is important to GOTV.
Wanda Sykes, blending LGBT and African American issues seamlessly.
Sarah Silverman
OMG!!! Her middle name is Kate -- that's so Catholic! Sarah's "Great Schlep" was not just hilarious, it was effective.
We have many things about which we are angry. I am not asking that anger be completely checked because it is impossible when we view real fear: loss of human and civil rights, livelihood, home, dignity. I am asking to channel some of that anger into voting for our best interests. We can do this, because, despite our outrage, we still have a sense of humor -- which I believe is part of our salvation.
GOTV. VOTE. Talk to a neighbor and make them laugh -- then they'll listen.
P.S. There have to be hundreds of Hispanic humorists. I need help. George Lopez wasn't all that funny, sorry.
