Of all the terrible things that exist, sexual assaults on children are among the very worst. I have seen the damage such abuse does to people, and it is horrifying. And about the last thing any survivor of sexual abuse wants to talk about in public is what he or she went through at the hands of a sick, criminal piece of scum. The predators who commit these terrible crimes are often shielded by the organizations for which they work, and if the law doesn't allow victims to sue these organizations, victims are often out of luck trying to bring these corrupt groups to justice.
Which brings us to Tea Bagger Republican Senate candidate Ron Johnson of Wisconsin. Let Keith Olbermann frame it for us.
Johnson's rationale for opposing this law was that it might be economically harmful to Wisconsin. That was his priority concern. Oh, and of course, protecting the Green Bay diocese's monstrous practice of shifting pedophile priests from post to post.
And yet Johnson--who has grossly exaggerated his business success, lied repeatedly about his positions, called for the ultimate elimination of Social Security and Medicare, and proven himself unable to give a specific, coherent answer in regard to what he would do if elected, is favored to win one week from now.
And so my proposal: one of the victims of the Green Bay pedophile-priests, a very brave and determined victim, needs to go on statewide television and HOLD RON JOHNSON ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS ROLE IN THIS SHOCKING AFFAIR. These so-called "family values" Republicans need to be brought down hard. A single one minute commercial, shown repeatedly throughout Wisconsin, might yet turn the tide. We CANNOT let a man like Johnson, who puts profit and cover-up ahead of the rights of crime victims, prevail.
Yes, this is easy for me to say, isn't it? I was not one of the victims. I will be the first to admit that if the victim were I, that I would not be able to find it in me to testify to my suffering in public. But perhaps one stronger than I will find this strength--and finally, bring Ron Johnson to justice.
