Ok, I saw this letter to the editor in my local paper today, and I wanted to know...if they are just insane, or was I asleep during this chapter in history class.
letter is below the fold.
Emphasis is mine:
Bobbi Leonard wrote that our legal system was not based on the Ten Commandments when in fact our forefathers went to the Netherlands and studied the Bible for 13 years prior to coming to America, where they were looking to get away from religious persecution and writing what is known as our Constitution.
They did not study any other religious doctrine. That is why we have "In God We Trust'' and other inscriptions on our buildings around the capitol. The law may state that these plaques should be removed. I am thankful that humanity can "try" Christ for being anything they choose, but He is who He is. No amount of disbelief can change Him or move Him and what he has stated will not change no matter what. He is coming again and He has stated it. Then what? Do you know the end of the story? If not, you better read the book. Those who believe have all the proof they need. Those that are set on disbelief have all the evidence they need to incriminate Him. So heaven and hell are both armed for the final showdown. Which side are you on?
Well ok, so the writer is batshit crazy anyway. I did a search for "founding fathers"/"founding father" and "netherlands" in google and came up with very little. Some people who visited there while they were hanging out in France and stuff like that.
Is it possible that this person was talking about the Puritans. Of course, if thats the case, I would hardly call them this nation's forfathers and they certainly didn't write the Constitution.
I haven't written a letter to the editor in a while. This may ge a good chance to kick more conservative ass.
