If Nevadans elect Sharron Angle tomorrow, they shouldn't be surprised to wake up to a nuclear waste dump in the back yard, because without Harry Reid fighting for them in the Senate, that's exactly what they are going to get.
Opponents of a Nevada nuclear waste dump thought they’d finally managed to kill the Yucca Mountain project. Then came Sharron Angle.
The tea party-backed Republican stands a good chance at ousting Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has spent much of his career fighting the nuclear repository. And without a senior Nevada lawmaker in position to fend off Yucca’s supporters, the project could have new life.
It's not just that Reid has labored to block the Yucca project, it's that Sharron Angle actually supports reopening it. She's modified her position during the campaign, claiming that she only wants Yucca to "reprocess" nuclear waste not permanently store it, but she's previously supported using it as a storage facility. Moreover, how she could expect to "reprocess" fuel without also storing it is beyond me.
Nonetheless, despite that bit of misdirection, Angle has been up front about wanting to use Yucca to deal with nuclear waste, and Reid has been very clear about his opposition to it, so if she does win this election, Nevada voters won't be able to say they weren't warned.
