It's no victory mosque being built in the smoldering ruins at ground zero, but for a slow cycle in the political news biz, Fox has its scandal and, if you'll excuse the expression, like a dog with a bone they're not letting it go.
First, the story:
President Obama praised Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie for giving NFL MVP candidate Michael Vick a second chance after his dog-fighting conviction.
Lurie told Peter King of NBC and Sports Illustrated that he recently received a phone call from Obama to talk about Vick and the Eagles' plans to install wind turbines and solar panels at Lincoln Financial Field.
"The president wanted to talk about two things, but the first was Michael,'' Lurie told King, who first reported on the conversation on NBC on Sunday night. "He said it's never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail. And he was happy that we did something on such a national stage that showed our faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall."
And now, the scandal:
In other words, the President was clearly uninterested in:
... the most ambitious green initiative yet: the installation of about 2,500 solar panels, 80 20-foot-highwind turbines and a generator that runs on natural gas and biodiesel so that Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles’ home, will be the first stadium capable of generating all its own electricity.
... and was just looking for an excuse to offer huzzahs to Michael Vick. Because after all, if you were really calling the owner of an NFL team to discuss green energy, you would never engage in any sort of small talk about football or the team's most talked about player.
What we have here is the President praising the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles for giving the concept of second chances -- what some might describe as a Christian principle -- a national platform, but give Fox a few days and they'll have their viewers convinced that Obama was kicking Bo's head in while praising Michael Vick's despicable crimes.
