I know it sounds strange, but I wish the election law in Connecticut was more like Ohio's. Yeah, I said it....and I meant it.
There is one specific clause that I am referring to, and it's commonly called the "Sore Loser Law" in Ohio.
It states, quite simply, that if you are on the ballot and you lose the primary election, you CAN NOT run again for the same seat as an independent, a write-in, or any other way. You're out. Plain and simple.
When I ran for office in 2004, I had to sign a contract stating that if I lost the primary, I would not run for the same seat.
Joe Lieberman needs to sign the same contract. If and when Ned Lamont defeats the GOP's favorite Democrat, he should NOT be permitted to be on the ballot any further. Serve out your term and try again next time.
But first, the Connecticut Legislature needs to act. There's time to do it. They could easily pass a bill that would prevent sore losers from returning to the scene of their defeat in order to muddy the waters even further.
However, there is also a law in Ohio that states a person cannot run for two offices in the same election....if CT had a law like that, Holy Joe would have been forced to choose between CT Senate and VP in the 2000 election. My God, thnk of the possibilities and the pain we could have been spared!
Anyway, feel free to contact the CT House Democrats and inquire about a bill to change election law, keeping sore losers away from the General Election ballot!
Here's a list of House Dems in CT....and ways to contact them!
