Google "Bush Loyalty" in news reports and you'll come back with
1,970 results. But is it really loyalty that matters?
No not really. It is what helps him that matters. Look how they have left Katherine Harris out to dry since she started her Senate bid. Look how quickly they dropped Terri Schiavo after it turned out that was a bad call. Look how they have created distance between themselves and the state of Ohio since the election. Jack who? Grover what? What's Mike Brown doing today? If you aren't capable of what they ask, then you are not worthy of their friendship, money, or loyalty. That's when you end up on the rubbish heap. It is what happens when the boss doesn't take responsibility.
Look what they are doing now to the Christian Right and Ms. Miers as their nominee. They were loyal. She was loyal. Now they are going to get crunched. The best part? They'll do it to each other.
More on the flip
This is where the GOP melts. When given the chance to rule as the single party over the entire country, there are too many mouths to feed. As
Ed Kilgore mentions over at TPM, the Christian right has been promised this moment for over 30 years. It is payment time. They actually think that this opportunity will enable them to end what they see as a holocaust of the unborn.
Did Bush deliver with Miers?
Nope...he put in a flunky. A flak nominated to the highest court in the land. The James Dobson's of the world are like,"Sweet, thanks, but not really our style."
He used them. He's using her. Just like he used his family name to get into Yale, join the cool clubs. Just like he used his dad to get out of the Airforce. Just like he used his contacts to get rich. Just like he used his dad's contacts to run for governor.
Loyalty has never been a two way street here folks; it is one way and the speed limit is as fast as you can go.
Once you are no longer useful. Then you are disposed of. If you speak out, then you are ruined and will never work again. Friendships are junked.
Ms. Miers cannot sooth the anger of the Christian Right. If she said everything that they wanted her to say in the confirmation hearings, then she wouldn't get confirmed. If she doesn't say what they want her to say, then the Coburns and all their friends spread throughout the SE, are gonna be pissed.
The thing is, why would Bush do this to her? She is going to be taken apart. The often used con artist ploy,"Trust me on this..."? The right is eating her alive and Bush will not be able to rein in a monster that he helped build and nuture.
It seems to have happened time and again. So the question is, when does the Republican base question their loyalty to him? When do they say, "Enough is enough, we have followed you into this pit, when do we get what we want?"?
I think it starts happening now. This mode of operandi has worked up to a point and they have passed it. 10 seconds to meltdown....9....8...7...6...5...4...3...2..?
