this time around?
I was thinking this morning about the embargoed CBS 60 MInutes piece on the WMD and the lies that got us into the war in Iraq and a whole lot of other things.I felt the frustration that I know all of us must feel about CBS's decision that they decided to go with the TANK issue first and that they wouldn't air Josh's piece until after the election so as not to unduly influence it. Whatever that means.
I see this entire matter more in line with a trial . If one has evidence that strongly pertains to proper judgement of a case before a jury, I would think that that evidence would be presented. If a prosecutor has proof positive that the accused has commited a crime and decides to withhold it until after the jury has come in so as not to affect their decision it would be considered insane.
To deny the voters all the facts, before the election preventing them from rendering an informed decision, given what's at stake here is criminal.
Since CBS is refusing to run the story, and Sumner Redstone has said in effect that what's good for Viacom is more important to him than what's good for his country, we need someone to overrule him. We need someone inside CBS, who has access to the story to take that information and leak it. Someone must stop this. Someone must stand up and say that the facts are more important than the bottom line. People are dying every day, it must end.
Whether that involves leaking it to the internet and letting it spread from there, or taking a disc of the story and crossing the street to another news outlet, breaking whatever rules that involves, someone with all the proof has to put their ass on the line here and get this story out.
I've taken the advice of other Kossers and sent off e-mails to CBS I have no idea if that will make a difference, but it's a definite step in the right direction. Those of us outside can only do so much however and in the end someone inside CBS must make the leap of faith that our country is more important than one company.
Truth is more important than the bottom line.Who will be Daniel Ellsberg this time around?
and for anyone out there (though there probably isn't) who needs a refresher..here it is.
