Yesterday, grateful citizens of Syracuse, NY, and Onondaga County, got together at the Dewitt Shire Tavern in the Town of Dewitt, NY to thank their Congressman - Dan Maffei (D) of the 25th Congressional District of NY for being one of six Representatives who bravely stood for the interests of their constituents, and voted for healthcare reform.
The entire affair was organized by Syracuse For Obama and was attended by members of the SEIU and chapters of Organizing For America from all over Central New York.
The Dewitt Shire Tavern is a rather congenial place for people to get together for a good time, and it is located in the Town of Dewitt, New York.
People listened avidly as Congressman Maffei explained to the people why it is that he felt it necessary to vote for health care. He thanked all the people there that were active in promoting healthcare reform, and praised them for their steadfast support during the toughest time, and impressed upon people the necessity of passing health care reform at this time.
Not only did he praise the people for hanging tough in the face of adversity, but he also spoke of the need to continue fighting for this reform in the face of the criticism that will come as part of the next midterm elections. It is my belief as a blogger, that we must answer this criticism, and challenge these critics on the question of what they would do to improve healthcare in place of these reforms which have now been enacted.
Here is Representative Maffei with John DeSantis, Regional Field Director of OFA and co-director of Syracuse For Obama, who helped organize yesterday's event.
