In an effort to gain a deeper understanding of our readership so we can serve you better, we analyze reams of data every day. While the algorithms themselves are proprietary, we've learned an awful lot about all of you, and it's really fascinating.
For instance:
- 35% of Daily Kos readers read the site at least once before breakfast.
- 28% read the site after they appear to have gone to bed.
- 48% of you have cats.
- Of that 48%, 87% have posted pictures of their cats.
- 65% of our readers are either "ridiculously good looking" or "at least a 7", and I have it on good authority that you, Dear Reader, are in one of those categories.
- 30% of you use Internet Explorer.
- 41% of you use Firefox.
- 6 of you (six, not six percent) use Linux.
- We have the data to determine how many of you use Black Berries instead of iPhones, but I don't feel like looking it up.
- 15% of our readers consider themselves "conservative" or "extremely conservative".
- Those 15% of readers have had, on average, seven accounts.
The most interesting thing we've been able to track, though, is how much of an article people actually read. It's not easy, but the results are illuminating. I've included a chart below.
After that chart was made, we decided it would be a better use of our resources to move everything over to twitter. Starting tomorrow, when you load up Daily Kos you'll get a list of the front pager's twitter accounts and can follow them there. We believe that after this move, you'll finally read all of our words. This will also cut down, but not eliminate, complaints that people didn't read the whole thing. This change may be sudden, but we hope you like it.
