Last week I reported on
Samm Simpson had delievered
4617 petition signatures (out of a needed 4088) and that it was down to the county elections office to certify her submitted petitions.
I called the Pinellas County (Florida) Supervisor of Elections yesterday afternoon and they confirmed that Samm had been certified for the ballot in November.
So, with less than 2 weeks -- Samm Simpson overcame intense odds. That's great. It was also the easy part.
Samm now faces off against 18 term incumbent C.W. "Bill" Young. You might remember Young from the State of the Union address where his wife was ejected. Bill stood up the next day not just for his wife Beverly but for Cindy Sheehan who had been ejected as well.
"If she was just sitting there wearing a shirt, I don't think she should be kicked out," he told reporters.
(several sources on that quote, but I got it from the St. Pete Times Sue Carlton).
Of course, all things aren't merry with Bill Young in congress. He is soundly backed by the military (as well as the Military-Industrial complex) and has his re-election war chest already at 230 thousand dollars.
It's an uphill battle for Samm and she'll need all the help she can get.
