I thought I'd put a question to the community.
What are some ideas you have on convincing nonvoters to vote? Any new ideas out there?
To nip something in the bud, I suggest a ground rule - for every joking suggestion, submit a serious suggestion as well. :-)
I'm not so sure about the efforts to convince young voters that voting is "cool." It seems related to the same media efforst that try to convince youngsters that saying no to drugs is "cool", or abstaining until marriage is "cool". When I was younger the last thing I needed was someone else telling me what was cool. That wasn't cool. It was of course also uncool to do drugs, have sex, and not vote just because someone told me the opposite. But in general we felt like, "We'll do it for our own reasons, thank you very much."
So I wonder if it might be more effective to mock people and call them uncool for NOT voting. "Don't vote. After all, it's not your country." (paid for by citizens against laziness.)
