Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH-01) held a town hall meeting on health care last Wednesday night. Why? To listen to concerns and answer questions.
"I think what you see is people who are concerned. They have legitimate worries, a lot of them have misinformation, a lot of them had the right information and they didn't like it, and I think it's fine for them to ask me those questions and for me to answer it," Shea-Porter said.
About that question and answer thing:
Shea-Porter took questions from a highly energized and deeply divided crowd at Bedford. The congresswoman attempted to explain her vote for the health care bill amid shouts of "You're lying!" and "We didn't come here to listen to you!"
"We didn't come here to listen to you..." at the event you held to explain your vote.
Shea-Porter's answers to constituent questions aren't the only thing the shouters had no interest in. At Blue Hampshire, Dean Barker reports that:
According to a reader, someone at the town hall actually railed against Shea-Porter because she voted for TARP. Which, of course, she didn't do.
They don't listen, they don't read about votes. How on earth could you ever break through the bubble of willful ignorance? Well...ads on Glenn Beck must be coming pretty cheap by now.
