Ka-pow:
GOP Chairman Michael Steele shouldn’t blame criticism of his actions on race, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday.
Gibbs called Steele’s remark that criticism of his leadership is motivated by race "silly" during a meeting with reporters.
"I think Michael Steele’s problem isn’t the race card, it’s the credit card," Gibbs added.
Earlier today, Steele told ABC's Good Morning America that he and Barack Obama are held to an unfair higher standard because they are African-American. Whether or not Steele is right about that (there's probably some truth), Steele himself has demonstrated a pattern of hypocritically railing against Democrats who he claims have played the race card while playing it himself.
Update (9:12AM): Oh, and more bad news for Steele. Steele's newest fundraising aide misused tens of thousands of dollars from the D.C. Baseball PAC and the D.C. Baseball Association, some for personal purposes. Meanwhile, major RNC donors are bailing -- and former chairman Ed Gillespie is setting up what amounts to a $50 million shadow RNC.
