The Newsweek story retraction is undoubtedly a huge setback for the mainstream media. However, it gives us at DKos a chance to make a vivid comparison of the faulty intelligence used by Newsweek to the faulty intelligence used by the Bush administration to start the Iraq war.
Not only is the analogy apt, we also have new evidence in the last week to backup the claim that Bush was not wrong, he lied. The
Downingstreet Memo is yet another piece of circumstantial evidence that makes the case. It should be spread far and wide. If the media won't accurately cover the story, start posting the memo around your neighborhood, office, and apartment (if you have Republican roommates). Shout it from the corners. We have been lied to.
Don't let the media wash over the story of an intelligence failure that lead to thousands of deaths by focusing on Newsweek's mistake. Let's all keep active this week, mail our representatives and media members to concentrate on finding the truth. It's never too late.
