I thought you all would find this amusing.
I am a Deaniac. I was a full time volunteer for Dean as one of the national coordinators of Generation Dean and as the State Director of GenDeanAZ. I spent hours every day organizing and getting young people on board, registered, and educated about voting. I did well too -- we won in the precints around our major college campuses despite our really poor showing statewide ... so that felt pretty good ... but now - I HAVE SO MUCH FREE TIME IT IS DISGUSTING.
Anyhow I left DC to come to AZ for a number of reasons last July, primary being the chance to work for the campaign in my home state while hanging with family. Despite many pleas and my desires, I have not been back to see all my friends, old professors, ex-girlfriends ANYONE since I moved here. Now that things are winding down for Dean I REALLY REALLY REALLY have been jonesing to get back out there for a weekend ... make sure my friends still exist.
To do this though -- I have to raise funds. And I've decided to do this the way Howard would - online and leaning heavily on a blog.
My blog now has a "bat", I have sent out a "call to action email", and I will continually make pleas to my blog readership (a moderately sized group of friends and an okay number of random outsiders looking for Ninja III info or god knows what else).
I even named the fundraising effort, I call it the "Post-Dean Quarter-Life Crisis Fund" ...
Once people donate, if I am not quite to my goal and they gave small donations, I'll hit them up for a repeat. Also, I am going to get people to write about how good they feel that their money went to a good cause.
So far - I've raised $1:) While my goal is $300, there is a big pool going around my circles as to how much I can actually pull in. Some say 20 bucks, some say 300, others think I'm going to make a happy grand. All I know is that if I go over the goal I will definitely use the money to but poorly put together newspaper ads about god knows what issue -- BUT ONLY if I can pay myself a cut. Also, if I get any donations over 20 bucks I may send them back so as not to be the hand maiden of the special interests of free vacationing.
A friend of mine is thinking of putting up his own "bat" to give me some competition. I am telling you now, if he raises money in bigger chunks than me - I am going to make sure everyone knows he is corrup and I will call him a republican.
Anyhow - this is all half joke half serious. It is pretty therapeutic to do something like this and just yuk it up. I figure now is the time for the most dedicated of us Deaniacs to starts having a sense of humor about everything.
Swing on by my little blog Fear Itself (don't expect great content, it is a very limited readership and I just do it for fun) to check everything out. Heck if you want to pitch in a five spot -- I'd greatly appreciate it.
Even if you don't want to give any money -- take a free read. There is one little gem in my fundraising post about peeing with Dean (a true story).
