If anything could reasonably prompt a diary - and h*ll, it's been two+ years of viewing, commenting and recommending for me, so it's about time - this seems like a worthy event during which to indulge in some timely reflection.
But first, two warnings:
Chicken Little will resemble a rabid cheerleader if/after you read this.
Some imagery in this preview is graphic.
So.. what exactly is it going to take for society and our (..there's a stretch..) elected representatives and legislators to actually change (not "call for"/"suggest"/"demand" either.. no, truly change) current business priorities and practices? I think I finally know.
I was hopeful that the recent Wall Street heist of the bulk of this country's perceived value would inspire it. But calls for business reform after our Financial Armageddon have become ambient noise.
And the current Louisiana disaster is certainly on target to stack the corpses of aquatic life like cord wood. But that won't do it either - no sirree - just witness the oil industry apologists/senators coming up to speed even now.
Human corpses stacked like cord wood?
Ahh, now we're talking. And how will that happen? Follow me..
Nuclear energy. Talk about a disappointing trajectory -
Ultimate scientific research effort..
War-ending super-weapon..
Tireless reliable naval propulsion..
Maturing civil energy contributor..
Three Mile Island..
Continuing civil energy contributor..
Chernobyl..
Diminishing civil energy contributor..
No plants on the drawing boards..
Now take a surreal pause for the Peak Oil debate, Climate Warming, 9/11, sky-high energy prices, and aneurysm-inducing stress regarding the Middle East to saturate our lives..
And now? Why.. Nuclear Power is the Savior of our Energy Future, don'cha know?
You can feel the ground tilting -
..increasingly frequent reporting by non-MSM outlets of nuclear industry spokespeople gearing up with questionable studies and even more suspect reasoning..
..local government representatives expressing metered support, sprinkled with adequate amounts of reassurance, while beginning the "long-overdue reevaluation of nuclear power".
The irony meter is about to shatter itself as the environment's well-being (i.e.: reducing global warming ASAP) is cited as the primary motivation that requires accelerating (..right past those bothersome government-conspiracy-implementing overseers..) the construction of these sorely needed plants.
Sort of like.. rushing to drill oil wells in more hostile than typical environments? ..with less oversight and preparation for the catastrophic (or inevitable?) than we [irony on]all wish[irony off] was practical?
Get in line, because your medium-sized township (or military base) can even purchase a Toshiba nuclear battery-style self-contained reactor.. coming online soon. For all of you that remember the "Popular Mechanics" projections of a flying atomic car in every driveway, here's today's take:

And what could possibly go wrong?
Ask BP. Then extrapolate.
