I just watched an interview with Mary Landrieu on the Chuck Todd Show (or whatever the name is). I wish I had the transcript or video or something, cause my jaw dropped.
She said that when the President comes, he better have some money, and not just loans. In effect she is saying that Louisiana needs a federal emergency fund on top of the guaranteed BP money.
Now I have been as critical as anyone of the President's messaging through this crisis, but if I had to chose blaming President Obama or blaming Senator Landrieu, Landrieu wins every day of the week and twice on Sundays. She is the most prominent drill baby Democrat in the Senate.
Before anyone gets too mad at me, please know I love New Orleans. I've been there many times, and will go back many times. Having been there enough, I have no regret in saying it is among the worst governments in the country. Money goes in, but doesn't go out.
Landrieu was talking about revenue sharing and berms (which take months to build). None of that has a damn thing to do with cleaning up this spill. Building berms is certainly something to consider for protecting coasts in the future, but that isn't what the President should be addressing. She is the Senator for the state. Propose it in congress.
As far as revenue sharing goes, her state makes a ton off of royalties. She seems to be proposing that the state territory be extended further into federal areas of the Gulf. I'm sure other Gulf states and the nation of Mexico might want to be involved in that discussion.
My heart goes out to the people of Louisiana, but once again your politicians fail to represent the dignity of your people. The Senator seems to trying to cash in on this latest crisis. Every time I see that I cringe, because I know money that goes in the political machine never seems to shake out. The people of Louisiana should be made whole by BP. That doesn't mean fleecing the federal government.
