C-Span last night played Kerry's 1971 testimony (
transcript) to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as a repreesntative to Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). When I listened to this last night on the radio I was floored. This articulate, courageous war hero was standing up for his brothers in arms, telling the Senators what he and his fellow veterans have experienced and what it means for the nation's policy specifically and for the legacy of Vietnam for the country in general. You have to listen to it. Listen to the composure, earnest confidence, and sincere desire to use loyal dissent in service to country.
I was not successful in calling in to C-Span's listener reaction afterwards, but here's what I wanted to say:
"My only beef with C-Span's coverage is I wish they had shown the speech and Q & A of this articulate young veteran in split screen, with the other half occupied by George W. Bush doing whatever he was up to then. What was Bush doing in 1971? Which of these two men should lead our country?"
So I ask you, dKos readers, did you see, hear or read the testimony? What did you think?
(Or if you wish, speculate on what Dubya would have looked like in his half of the split screen.)
