I thought about skipping after-hours this week, but as SMBG Saturday has topped 500 comments, here's the place to continue the conversation.
Posting early though -- promised Younger Son we'd go see the Shrek flick today.
This penstemon has had buds for a while; they just finally opened. Not sure of the variety -- the Mister picked it out at Paulino's back in April.
It has not been a really relaxing weekend -- I'm busy as a spider on a peony (although exactly why the spider is hanging out on the peony is a mystery to me). Saturday evening I had to go into the office and turn off and unplug all the equipment. The building does electrical maintenance on Memorial Day Sunday, so everything needs to be off to ward against power surges. Of course, my Bossman can't leave on Friday evening and stay away until Tuesday morning. Hence the Saturday trip.
Yesterday I had to drive the Mister out to Bumfuck Aurora to pick up the pick-em-up-truck. Yaller Dawg is an old Ford pickup we bought years ago for $1,000 which we keep around for hauling crap. But it needed some maintenance work the Mister didn't feel like doing, so we paid one of his co-workers a couple hundred bucks to do it for us.
This morning I went into the office during the wee morning hours to turn everything back on; see above re the Bossman's inability to stay out of the office... computers and phones had to be up and running for him. And no, he can't turn it all off and on; he's something of a technophobe, and we're lucky to have him using email on a regular basis. Besides which, I would have had to go in even if the Bossman had turned everything back on, because something weird happened to one of our power backups and it was blaring its "power fail" warning when I turned it back on. So I had to jerry-rig power for central control so I could leave the power backup unit turned off and silent until we get our computer guy in to sort out just what the fuck happened to it.
Since then I've been outside transplanting lavender and planting gladiolus corms. Came in just as the phone rang... it was the Bossman, double checking that today was, indeed, a holiday and I indeed, was not, planning on coming into work again today.
Yeah, he forgets. One of his quirks (yes, he's very quirkiful, but otherwise a great boss. He does manage to remember that we don't work Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, but he forgets which of those other holidays we take off).
So now I'm inside, and pounding out a quick SMBG-AH, preparatory to scrubbing the dirt out from under my nails, and changing into a t-shirt without holes in it, so we can go to the movie.
Oh, and is anybody else noticing a lack of lobelia this year? Yesterday I went to Lowe's, and K-Mart, and neither had any lobelia, except for a few bits in their pre-planted planters. I didn't go to Home Despot as road repair makes it difficult to get to. Hadn't seen any at the hardware store, either, when I was there a few days ago. And there was no way I was going to go to a nursery-nursery on Memorial Day Sunday -- far too crowded. I just find it very bizarre that the nursery section of three retailers that tend to have all the "basics" had no lobelia.
Now that I think about it, both places had a lot of pre-planted planters, but very little variety in bedding plants. I wonder if that's a marketing trend.
