Convenes: 9:30am
Resume consideration of S.3217, Wall Street Reform.
Once again, the House keeps it light today. Yes, there are 14 suspensions on the schedule, but they're apparently planning for a two hour floor session and not much more. Of course, that includes work on the Mother's Day Centennial Commemorative Coin Act, and Glenn Beck will probably lose his s**t about that.
The Senate, meanwhile, continues work on the Wall Street reform bill. There still haven't been any votes on amendments yet, but there are four currently pending, so we'll likely see some voting before long, whether they get a deal in place or not. The real question is whether and when we'll see the end of the process. Harry Reid wants it done by the end of next week, but with over 150 amendments filed and more likely to come so long as there's no deal (meaning everybody's unsure exactly how things will go down, so there's extra CYA activity going on), there's no telling when they'll get to the end. Though it should be noted that these things sometimes collapse under their own weight, and the sheer volume of amendments being filed only ends up increasing the pressure to find an acceptable deal, if only to start jettisoning some of those amendments and focusing on the ones that really make a difference and really have a chance.
Meanwhile, on the committee side, see what the House Judiciary Committee is doing? They're meeting at 10:15. Didn't I tell you they do that? Yes I did. Very odd habit, that. And how about the hearing being held by the "United States Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control"? You don't see an awful lot of caucus hearings, but there it is.
