There has been a lot of speculation as to the world's reaction to Bush's re-election. Will they hold their nose and engage in new relations or will they wither away whatever olive branches they had laid across the gap?
American backpackers have long affixed patches with the Canadian flag to their gear, just in case some anti-American sentiment oozed past the general good-natured Europeans and other people of the world. At any given time, there were likely more 'Canadians' travelling the globe than there were in Toronoto and Ottawa and Vancouver put together.
SUGGESTION: Instead of the weaselly deceptive Canadian flag, why not a kind of "Blue State American" flag? American flag with a blue border and logo embossed?
Because we care about and are fascinated by the world, we will still travel, and now, perversely, we have a segment of our country to boldly be proud of. "I come from a Blue State!" And we can politely explain, before word spreads, what that means.
This can help maintain relations with the outside world, who expected us to boot this mendacious fool from office. It can help isolate the Red States for what they are.
Conversely, it might assuage declining tourism to great American cities. Other than Florida and Arizona, all tourism pretty much comes to Blue States anyway -- "It's safe! We love you!" Is easy to say.
