After reading the
transcript of Jimmy Carter on Larry King Live, I am wondering why no reporter has bothered to ask the President one simple question:
"Mr. President, will United States forces still be in Iraq when you leave office three years from now?"
Short. Simple. Direct. If he says yes, he will be hammered by everyone. If he says no, he has flip-flopped on his "no timetable" policy.
Okay, we both know he won't say either yes or no. He'll give his usual answer about how we're going to stay until the Iraq forces are ready to take over.
When this happens, Democrats should absolutely hammer him. He will have admitted he has no exit plan and that he can't guarantee that we'll be out of there by 2009! That's three years from now! The Democrats could then tie every Republican who supports the President to being in favor of having no plan.
Can you imagine watching the Republicans try to weasel out of answering questions from reporters. It would be the biggest story in the country and every spotlight Republican would have to answer why they support a President who has no plan to guarantee we'll be gone by 2009! It completely flips the debate on the war.
Democrats won't have to listen to cut-and-run crap. We'll be talking about 2009! We can accuse Republicans of wanting to stay in Iraq indefinitely and it will stick.
