ap·pease·ment (-pzmnt)
n.
The policy of granting concessions to potential enemies to maintain peace.
No this is not a "Lieberman diary". This is a diary on the sorry slide our nation and world have taken since the ascendency of George Bush and the complete lack of any meaningful opposition to the rape of our Constitution.
To put a fine point on it.
Still not clear, lunkhead media pundits? Let me help you out...
This is not a bunch of people bent on repeating the "mistake" of '72 and McGovern. This is a bunch of people outraged that we are repeating the mistake of Vietnam.
Did what happen to McGovern in '72 convince all of you that no matter how damaging Bush's "decisions" are to the US, the opposition party has to sit on its hands or not be re-elected?
Where is the opposition to warrentless, unsupervised-by-the-Courts spying on Americans?
Where is the opposition to the un-challenged, un-adjudicated labelling of people as "enemy combatents" and holding them without charges, trial or representation for years?
Where is the opposition to the appointment of right-wing judicial activists to the Supreme Court?
Oh, there are many other issues that concern centrist democrats. But those are sufficient for any democrat and many republicans to wonder what the hell is going on here,
while the media pundits nod in approval at Bush.
THIS IS NOT AMERICA!
Where is the opposition when our leaders call their citizens unamerican for objecting to stupid, undemocratic policies?
I'll tell you where: the poster boy of the opposition is also calling those who question unpatriotic.
The poster boy of the opposition uses his cloture vote, the only one that could have stopped the train wreck, to ensure Alito's appointment.
Then he smiles, and kisses, and calls for bi-partisanship.
This is not the time for a unilateral Democratic move to bi-partisanship.
This is the time for opposition.
This is a cry, a loud, long, pent-up cry, a primal scream, for OPPOSITION.
This is not '72. It's 2006 and the country is in crisis, you self-congratulatory, insipid, pusillanimous, flacid of character, soul-selling media whores.
Do I sound like the angry left?
Well, you got the angry part right.
Anyone who is not angry is not paying attention.
