In a speech today in Texas, our syllabically challenged president repeated the phrase, "war on terror" no less than five times. Apparently, the term, "global struggle against violent extremism," or what is referred to around the beltway as GSAVE, is now inoperative for Crawford's official summer shrub whacker.

There will be much gnashing of political teeth over this distinction -- how Bush stands defiant and alone, with his more erudite staffers chanting the GSAVE mantra. But it doesn't change the humorous, and ultimately sad notion that the reason George Bush won't switch terms is because saying, "Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism" is just too damned complicated! 13 syllables, mind you, as opposed to just 4 in WOT.
When a brain like Bush's can save 9 syllables, it is a major cerebral victory. I hope the press has fun with it while we struggle through the summer.
