Originally, I was someone who thought that people had the right to die when they wanted to, and that keeping someone without any brain function in a vegitative state was wrong. But, reading what all these wonderfully ethical, Christian Republicans, under the inspired leadership of
Delay and
Frist said, I have changed my mind. In fact, I became Born Again instantly.
Before I continue below the fold, let me just say that these people deserve a Nobel peace prize nomination! Gandhi has nothing on them. And he wasn't Christian, so how could he have possibly been an ethical human being if he does not know the teachings of our Lord.
The only imperfect thing I can find about wonderful people such as mr. Delay, is that they did not go far enough. That's right. They are not addressing the most urgent problem in the United States today. According to the
CIA factbook (these people know everything!), the death rate in the US is about 8.34 deaths per 1000 residents per year. With a total population of about 293 million. That means that some 2.4 million people die in the United States every year.
How can we stand by idly and let all these people die? How do we know for certain that they are dead? It came to me when I saw people arguing, rightfully, that we don't know what the definition of "braindead" is. There may be medical advances that allow someone without a cerebral cortex to live in the near future! But why stop there? Who says that what we now know as "death" is the end the way our Lord intended it to be? This got me thinking, and I stumbled upon the wonderful idea of cryonics.
Cryonics is all about freezing a person's body as soon as they are "legally dead" (pfft, what do the courts know anyway). Then, due to the wonders of medical science, they can be revived at a later time! To not do this is, well, equal to murder. Why give up when there is still a chance for someone to have a meaningful life?
Now, here's the deal. It seems that the charge for freezing someone is about $30,000. For 2.4 million people per year, that's only $72 billion per year. Which the government can easily afford, right? So let's do it! Cryonics for all. And if money should run out, we can always thaw the pagans.
Thank you, and God bless.
P.S. It hurts my heart that I did not think of this earlier. Think of the wonderful, ethical people we could have saved:
