Though it doesn't do the 1.7 million who've lost their benefits prematurely or the nearly 2 million that it wil be next week, the House passed the extension 270-153. An amazing 20 Republicans voted for it, and 11 Dems voted against. Those Dems who are better Republicans than 20 of their colleagues from the other side of the aisle: Baird, Berry, Bright, Cooper, Hill, Markey (CO), Marshall, McIntyre, Minnick, Nye, Shuler.
It doesn't do the unemployed who have or soon will lose their benefits any good, because the Senate is out for the holiday recess, not back until July 12. Of course, by then there will hopefully be a replacement for Sen. Byrd on board and possibly, just possibly, enough votes to get it passed. Small comfort.
