Ipsos for Reuters. 7/9-11. Registered voters. MoE 4% (5/18 results)
Marco Rubio (R) 28 (27)
Charlie Crist (I) 35 (30)
Kendrick Meek (D) 17 (15)
Note, the trendlines are an Ipsos poll for McClatchy, not Reuters, but I'm assuming the methodology was similar enough to provide good trendlines.
While incumbents have faced a wave of voter anger in other states, a majority of Florida voters -- 53 percent -- approve of Crist's performance as governor and 41 percent disapprove. A 57 percent majority says Florida is on the right track.
"Generally incumbents have been at a disadvantage this year, but that hasn't been the case with Crist in Florida," Young said. "The move to running as an independent has paid off. He's capturing the middle space," said Ipsos pollster Cliff Young.
Rubio had a monster fundraising quarter, hauling in $4.5 million. Crist hasn't announced his Q2 numbers yet, while Meek came in at around $1 million.
But Crist has an advantage none of his opponents do -- the bully pulpit of the governorship, and he's milking it for all it's worth.
Gov. Charlie Crist said Thursday he's calling a special session of the Legislature in less than two weeks and will ask lawmakers to consider a proposed constitutional amendment to ban offshore oil drilling.
You can't buy headlines like that, in a state that has turned sharply against offshore drilling.
