Orange!
The Community Quilt Project has been making message quilts for beleaguered Kossacks (thirty-two so far, and counting) and signature for causes we care about – the star quilt is garnering money for INDN’s List now – and beginning Aug. 15, the next quilt will go to support a Senate candidate.
This quilt will be signed at NN10 – to support Feeding America.
We’re working hard to produce good works. But we need a bit of extra help to handle expenses toward the end of the year.
Hence this fundraiser. If you donate $12 or more using this PayPal link, we have a gift for you – one of 400 limited edition coffee cozies made from Green Dream batting and a wild assortment of our quilting cottons. The batting is made from recycled soda bottles – and the cozy replaces the paper sleeve you get with take out coffee – saving a bit of burden on the landfills. If you use our cozies with ceramic mugs that look like take out coffee cups, you’ll be doing the earth an even bigger favor!
For every online donation of $12 or more, we’ll send a cozy to you (if you want one) as our gift. Please use this PayPal link – and let me know if there is a particular fabric you prefer. There are only two of most of these cozies – so please speak up for your favorite! See pictures below! Or let us choose for you...they are all very nice, I promise! If you are overseas, no problem – but would you please donate enough to cover extra postage?
Sewing the cozies
We realize that not everyone can donate – and we truly value everyone who participates in the Community Quilt project – with messages and with kind wishes for the quilt recipients. So we want to do an additional drawing for a gift of one of our tied, charm lap throws (130 different fabrics!). Everyone donating and receiving a coffee cozy will be included, one entry per cozy – but you can also be included by writing a short essay (50 words or less) on "What the Community Quilt Project Means to Me" – if we find your essay is on topic, we’ll include you in the drawing! Send the essay by email on or before August 1, 2010, to communityquilts (at) yahoo (dot) com – and put "Community Quilt Project" in the subject line. Be sure to tell us your online screen name. If we get some interesting essays, I will share them in a diary on August 15, the day we will do the drawing. There is a limit of one essay per person.
Without more ado, here are some of the fabrics in the coffee cozies, shown before shaping so you can see the patterns a little better. I’ve arranged these in rough categories, with descriptions (from top to bottom).
