In the second bias crime pack beating death of an immigrant in New Jersey in less than one month, two teenagers have been charged based in part on a video they made of their slaughter of the man.
"Today, Khayri Williams-Clark, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old, both from Summit, were arrested and charged with manslaughter in the death of Mazeriego, a native of El Salvador. They were being held in the Union County Jail in Elizabeth, Williams-Clark in lieu of $100,000 bail. The teen who recorded the attack has not been charged.
They were the second set of teenagers in less than a month arrested for seemingly random attacks. The predators, authorities say, are all under the age of 20. The victims: older, foreign-born men."
Reports the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
NJ officials are still "investigating" whether the pile-on slaughter of an immigrant is a bias crime:
"On June 25, Divyendu Sinha, 49, was walking in front of his Old Bridge home with his wife and two children when a carload of teenage boys pulled up to the curb, got out and started to beat him. Sinha, a scientist and former professor, died two days later of his head wounds.
Four 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old have been charged in connection with Sinha’s slaying. Prosecutors want to try them as adults. Police are still investigating whether the incident was a bias crime."
Let’s see if NJ officials "investigate" a little faster now that a second pack-beating killing of an immigrant has happened in less than one month. It’s going to be harder for them to hope it blows over now that a second immigrant has been beaten to death in similar circumstances.
