Well, not really. But you just know that pretty soon, wingnuts running out of excuses for Bush will fall back to their old favorite of blaming Bill Clinton.
So, to save time, I thought I'd try to come up with some arguments as to why the slow and inept response to Katrina can be blamed on Bill Clinton
Warning: Emulating wingnut "thought" processes can cause extreme bodily harm and mental whiplash. Always have a spotter available, along with a copious supply of alchohol.
- Bill Clinton raised expectations. Under administrations prior to Clinton, FEMA was a dumping ground for political cronies. State and local authorities learned not to depend on FEMA. Clinton and James Lee Witt made FEMA a competent, fast-responding agency, which encouraged states to lean on the federal crutch. Bush returned FEMA to the status quo, but states are still stuck in the Clinton-era thought of relying on the Feds. Thus, it's Clinton's fault for deviating from the norm.
- Bill Clinton caused many problems. The Clinton administration left a vast number of "problems" for the Bush adminstration to deal with (such as a horrible budget surplus). Bush is working on fixing all of these problems, but it will take time to fix all of them. If George Bush could have 4 terms like that commie Roosevelt, he'd fix all of Clinton's messes
- Bill Clinton caused a moral decline of this country. God's wrath smote the US because of Clinton's moral depravity. God's busy these days, so it took a few years for Him to bring the smiting to the head of His to-do list.
- Hillarycare would have made things work worse. (Actual wingnut "arguement"; Ben Stein, to be specific).
- Bill Clinton let Osama Bin Laden go free, and thus is responsible for every security problem in the US for the next two decades.
- Bill Clinton plays the sax, and thus encouraged people to move to New Orleans. A bigger population is harder to rescue.
