Swami Nitya has delivered two powerful lectures so far during her brief time in Minnesota - bringing attention to the uncomfortable reality that there are tens of millions - a rapidly growing number of environmental refugees from the climate changes that are already taking place. Spirit calls on us to take responsibility for our actions, to regulate our consumption, to pursue a spiritual practice/discipline/sadhana throughout our remaining time on this planet - striving to give more than we take, to love more than we need to be loved, to reduce the suffering that we as individuals and a community cause to ourselves and others and ultimately become a refuge to all beings through renouncing some unnecessary desire.
Significantly, she comes out against the buzz world "sustainability" because to sustain our current lifestyles in the developed world we sustain the economic injustice against other peoples and the rapacious consumption of Nature itself.
What follows is a blurb written for an e-mail that will highlight Swami Nitya's upcoming workshop and radio appearance on "Raising the Consciousness" a local show on our Air America affiliate AM950 KTNF. Please give me a call if you need more information or would like to contribute to this ad buy.

Swami Nityamuktananda Saraswati (or Swami Nitya, for short) will be offering a Workshop on Creative Energy and the Goddess at the Meditation Center in Minneapolis in two sessions, with the introduction on Thursday at 7 PM ($15) and workshop all day Saturday ($60) beginning at 10AM. This year Swami Nitya is only in the Twin Cities until August 19th.
According to most wisdom traditions, including Yoga, there is a universal ,
indescribable force behind all phenomena of existence; it expresses through two powers, matter and consciousness; they work together as One. Mankind has due to his own experienced linked these to the genders. Some consider these as the eternal parents; understanding the power of omniscience and consciousness as male and the ever changing creative energy as female. However probably the most ancient traditions see both aspects in the image of the "Great Mother"; as that, She is much more than female! She becomes the creative energy per se beyond any limiting concepts such as gender. She simply is the power of creation and dissolution.
Different Traditions find different images for HER; and many of her archetypal facets become images we call Goddesses. These, not only have different facets and change in the course of history, but they cross gender frequently under social and cultural impacts. In the experience of mankind, SHE is all phenomenal existence, and often referred to as Mother, or more precise Mother Earth. Mother Earth is a living breathing organism,
as many ancients knew, and as such has a right to live, to be honored and respected. How we understand HER and treat HER determines our Future. We have to become aware that all life on this globe is ONE in HER; and as such sacred (as SHE suffers, we suffer) ! From that knowledge we gain strength and wisdom for right action, meaning in the present situation: Take the least, give the most...just like a Mother!
