Rand "Off the Wall" Paul is hopping mad that Jack Conway is running this ad, which includes footage of Paul saying "the real answer to Medicare would be a $2,000 deductible."
Paul's beef? He says Conway took him out of context and that he's never said a $2,000 deductible would solve Medicare's problems. In Rand's words:
"The ad is a lie," Paul responded during a campaign stop in Hazard in eastern Kentucky. "It's dishonest. It's demagoguery. It's politics at its lowest form. And it's also why we can't have an intelligent discussion in America."
Only one problem for Rand Paul. The YouTube don't lie:
PAUL: Medicare is socialized medicine! People are afraid of that because they'll say "ohhh, you're against Medicare." No, I'll say "We have to do something different. We can't just eliminate Medicare, but we have to get more to a market-based system."
It's counter-intuitive to a lot of people, but you have to pay for things if you want prices to come down. So you really need higher deductibles. And the real answer to Medicare would be a $2,000 deductible, but try selling that one in an election. But that's the real answer, you have to pay for things, and when you do, you also get rid of price controls. So raise the deductible, you get rid of price controls, and you allow more competition. And you may have to allow more competition from other parties.
So not only did Rand Paul say exactly what Jack Conway claimed that he said, Paul also admitted that during the campaign, he'd lie about what he really believes. And now that he's lying (just as he had promised to do), Rand's pointing his finger at Jack Conway, saying that Conway is the reason "why we can't have an intelligent discussion in America." All of which proves one thing: nothing pisses a teahadist off more than getting quoted in context. Because the one thing they don't want to have to run on is what they really believe. As Paul said:
Try selling that one in an election year.
