For the general public, the mode must be "attack." Reason, in this day and age, has no chance against polemic. So the resistance to the Republican snark machine must meet the enemy on the enemy's ground. That means it must display the same nastiness the Republicans do, even in speaking the actual truth. Once the battle is truly under way, it will be necessary for liberals to present a program people like.
