For the last year or so I have had javascript ticker on my blog that tracks the cost of the Iraq war. It is about to hit 300,000,000,000USD.
I think it is an effective consciousness-raising mechanism. It has generated a lot of comments and interest.

I got the ticker from the folks at the
National Priorities Project. It is just a little script you can embed in your blog template or on a page. Not tough to do.
The link from the ticker takes you to a site that breaks down the cost of the Iraq war and compares it to other priorities such as
- PRE-SCHOOL
- KIDS' HEALTH
- COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
- PUBLIC HOUSING
- PUBLIC EDUCATION
This is easy to do and effective. I recommend it to anyone who wants people to understand the real cost of the war in terms that are easily understood by anyone.
At the risk of being accused of blog pimping, you can see the script in action on my blog at blurt.info. It is in the right-hand column.
If you recommend this diary, other people will be able to embed the script as well.
