Gary Berntsen, author of
Jawbreaker : The Attack on Bin Laden and Al Qaeda: A Personal Account by the CIA's Key Field Commander (Note: read the Amazon review---pretty interesting!) was on Tim Russsert's MSNBC show tonight. After spending a good portion of the hour blasting the Clinton administration for failing to stop al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden when he could have, not one mention by either him or Russert that the Bush Administration has failed as well.
He spent the last ten minutes laying out the case of why the US needs to keep Iraq from becoming a nuclear power. They were behind many terrorist incidents in the past.
Tim asked him if we had the capability. "We have the capability and we gave Israel the capability as well."
Berntsen said the only reason why Iran keeps attacking and supporting terrorists is because they have not been punished for their actions.
I won't even jump into the simplicity of that statement.
But here's what really floored me. Of this President, who inexplicably allowed US Special Forces to be pulled back in Afghanistan when they were on the verge of capturing bin Laden, Berntsen says the following:
"The world believes this man will do what he says he'll do. If Republicans and Democrats can stand together and support him, people will believe him."
