Everybody who's angry at the democrats in congress right now think about this...I know you think that the democrats aren't doing enough to halt the nominations and policies of the Bush administration right now But I think there are four things that are kinda being passed over while you are venting.
UPDATE: I just got on the Fairfax County Democratic Party Committee and all I had to do was get online, go to the website, read a little bit email two people. And now as of next tuesday I'm a committee member, they pretty much said their are plenty of vacancies to get on! So I now will be a voting member of Fairfax County VA democratic policies. If I, a 21-yr-old college student can do it. CAMMON ALL YOU NON-ACTIVE people, go try it. If its that easy for you, it seems like we can really get the grassroots going with our ideas. But who knows, maybe we're already there, and I'm just late to the ball.
1. The Democrats are the minority party in each House and the White House, the only thing we can do is filibuster in the senate. So what happens if we filibuster?
A. If we filibuster nominations, Republicans accuse of holding back the government from being able to effectively fight the war on terror.
B. If we filibuster policies they will say the same thing.
So if we filibuster, we basically get slammed for being anti-american, AND they will most likely still pass their nominees.
2. The media may not be for us at the moment, and may seem to be parroting the Bush Administration (Although apparently the Bush Admin. is now in the process of paying for that kind of press), so they will portray us as obstructionists.
3. We are the minority party we have to choose our battles, the ones I think we HAVE to win our Social Security and Tax Reform, because they will wreck the country and we shouldn't worry as much about Gonzalez et al. because...
4. Abu Ghirab has put torture on the media's news list as things to hunt for. If their is ONE more found case of it, the Bush Administration is going to take a HUGE hit, they can't afford that.
So look, I think that yeah it sucks we aren't fighting, but I think its not that democrats just are sucky leaders, its that they understand the politics of DC and are choosing their battles. If Social Security policy blocks fail then I am wrong and god help our party.
