Now that House Republicans wasted time (and taxpayer money) for their teahadist-pandering, going-nowhere "repeal" of the Affordable Care Act, it's just occurred to them that they were supposed to replace it with something.
So far they have Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) congratulating (himself?) for "voting to begin replacing" ... and ... well, that's about it.
To be fair, House Republicans have been pretty busy with their efforts to create jobs bring back "don't ask, don't tell," to create jobs make sure currently banned federal funding for abortion continues to be currently banned, and to create jobs selectively read parts of the Constitution, so they just need a little time -- and they won't be rushed:
Republican leaders said they had not set any timetable for the four committees drafting alternatives to the law. “I don’t know that we need artificial deadlines for the committees to act,” Mr. Boehner said. “We expect them to act in an efficient way.”
Really? Would that be efficient like the Task Force Boehner announced two years ago was efficient?
House Republicans will not be content to be ‘the party of no.’ Instead, we will be the party of better solutions, and few issues demand more positive solutions than our nation’s health care crisis. Roy Blunt is uniquely qualified to chair this Task Force, which will help shape innovative House Republican health care solutions at a time when the American people need them most.
It only took about nine months for them to come up with a solution that time, and what a solution it was:
... the Congressional Budget Office released its initial analysis of the health-care reform plan that Republican Minority Leader John Boehner offered as a substitute to the Democratic legislation. [...]
The Democratic bill, in other words, covers 12 times as many people and saves $36 billion more than the Republican plan.
... which was the last time we heard anything about the plan or the Task Force.
And now, two years later, House Republicans still haven't come up with anything but a meaningless vote and some juvenile backslapping.
On the bright side, they're still enjoying their own government run health care plan.
