Here is Mickey Kaus in Slate criticizing Mitofsky for being wrong on Election night.
Mitofsky/Lenzi full of it
What's missing in Kaus's analysis is that the day-after weighted exit polls were jimmied to match the results of the election. Everyone should understand that.
Here's one instance where I come to Mitofsky's defense. If any of the exit polls were wrong, it was the 7:33 ones (or, if you are a fraudster, perhaps the 1 AMs). Those are the ones that have been misunderstood and misinterpreted (for some as of yet unexplained reason). Misunderstood not only by us amateurs who don't have the data, but by Mitofsky himself, since he's still trying to figure them out. The mainstream media is looking at the exit polls as though the early numbers were goofy and that the final exit polls were on target.
No, the final exit polls were weighted to match the actual results. They only give us demographic information.
One of the reasons Fradusters are still at it is because the narrative in the mainstream media has portrayed Mitofsky and his people as inept snakeoil salesmen. The fact is, the media has not looked into the real discrepancies (which even Mitofsky has admitted).
Mitofsky needs to provide an explanation for how or why that happened. It's ridiculous for the media to blame Mitofsky and the early exit polls as being skewed when they haven't even understood how the final exit polls released on the 3rd were tabulated.
Update [2005-1-4 15:46:26 by upstate NY]: I misread the Scoop .pdfs by accidentally clicking on the 3rd set of House horizontals instead of Pres. horizontals. My exchange with HProf now lacks the context for the proper perspective. The main thrust of the diary hasn't changed however.
