The water you drink is now being targeted by large corporations.
In the 19th century, private companies supplied drinking water to municipalities. The water
was often unsafe (i. e. typhoid fever) and eventually the cities took over monitoring the water supply. The 'starving the beast' mentality of the last 20 years has limited money to maintain the water system.
I have just received an 'investment watch' bulletin from an investment service. [more below the fold - let the private industry shenanigans begin!]
This bulletin mentions a recent rate hike by a public utility, and goes on to state, "This should be viewed as a general proxy for the water delivery infrastructure in the United States. Much of our country is delivered through 30+ year old pipes....
These pipes are predominantly steel, and are rusting... At present, only a fraction of the industry is investor-owned with publicly traded companies accounting for an even smaller number. This is changing, though, and it is here we see opportunity for investors."
However, once again, no one has learned from history. Privatization often makes matters worse. The bulletin admits that in 1999, Atlanta, Georgia
privatized its water system- and as a result, pipes went dry, and the water was unsafe.
The pressures for privatization are likely to increase. Where is your water coming from?
