Earlier in the season, when we said "any of these candidates could beat Bush" I think we were just sort of saying it. We didn't really believe it, in the face of the perceived domination of Karl Rove and the complicity of the press.
Now it seems things are changing. The voters are steamed, the press is seeing a change in the wind. So why the heck are we coronating John Kerry? Maybe there are good arguments as to why he would be a good president, but if electability turns out to be less of an issue, I really wish we'd look at who would make the best president, whether my candidate or someone else's. The breathtaking nature of Kerry's rise in the polls (from single digits in most cases) is once again showing me that if the choice is between Bush and Kerry, we'll be getting the candidate we "deserve."
OK, that's just me blowing off steam and frustration. Tell me why I still have to stay involved or even interested in this process if Kerry is the nominee? I'll just do what I was planning to do 2 years ago. Vote D and hope for the best...
