Hey, folks, I was at the Democrats' Meetup last night in DC, the one where T-Mac himself came and gave a pep talk and status report on the DNC. It made me wonder, how is McAuliffe doing amongst us bloggers?
You should probably vote before you read my take...
My own view is that:
a) I'm still mad at the DNC for fighting DC democracy activists so hard on the primary to draw attention to our lack of voting rights. I blame McAuliffe. The offer of showing a video on DC disenfranchisement is LAME.
b) I do give T-mac credit for the primary schedule (he was in full gloat mode last night) which succeeded in producing a consensus candidate and party unity early on -- even though Kerry was my number 3. I blame the media for prematurely coronating Kerry, not the DNC.
c) I'm not sure what to think of T-Mac's vaunted fund-raising prowess. He was also gloating about that last night, but I am not impressed that the DNC has a fancy new headquarters. We can thank Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, and the rest for the unity and fundraising. As an admitted former anybody-but-Dean Democrat I would much rather have Dr. Dean or someone like him as DNC chair than Mr. McA.
Feel free to discuss whether you think Kerry will or should replace McAuliffe, whether the DNC is/isn't doing their job, or whether it even matters. I suppose you can also discuss the Meetup here.
(I was looking for you, Kos, but a big crowd and dim lighting made it impossible).
