UK Prime Minister Tony Blair faced a Commons revolt last night on proposals to extend the period of time a terror suspect can be detained without charge from 14 to 90 days.
Yesterday was a bad day for Blair, David Blunkett the former Home Secretary and trusted Blair ally resigned from Cabinet for the second time in a year

The terror bill reading was postponed when it was feared a backbench amendment to limit the detention without charge period to only 28 days would pass the Commons. So although Blair seems keen to march in step with Bush and the rest of those who would sacrifice our civil liberties in the name of "freedom" and the "war on terror"; thankfully the Labour Party still has a firm commitment to them, and a healthy suspicion as to whether these draconian "extraordinary measures" are actually necessary or desirable.
