The political website for 9/11 family member and progressive candidate
ANDREW RICE was named the
political website of the day. This is a nice honor for a local campaign.
Andrew is one of just 15 candidates nationally endorsed by the progressive PAC, 21st Century Democrats.
A short BIO of Andrew below the fold....
Meet Andrew Rice
Following college, Andrew was accepted to Harvard University Divinity School and deferred his admission to do social work and travel in Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand. While in graduate school, Andrew returned to India with his sister Amy to shoot a documentary about the AIDS pandemic. On September 11th, Andrew's brother, David Rice, was killed in the World Trade Center. Due to this tragedy, Andrew re-dedicated his career to social justice work and moved from New York City to Austin, Texas to work for the Texas Freedom Network, which counters the influence of religious extremism in politics. In 2003 Andrew returned to his home town of Oklahoma City, where he founded the Progressive Alliance Foundation to work throughout the state advancing progressive solutions to public policy problems. Andrew is a member of the September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows steering committee, and has worked tirelessly over the past 3 years as a proponent for a legal, humane, and rational response to the attacks of September 11th. Peaceful Tomorrows was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 and 2004. Andrew won the 2004 Civil Libertarian of the Year Award from the ACLU of Oklahoma, has spoken to groups in 15 states, in South Africa, has been interviewed by the BBC, CBC, MSNBC, Fox News, and has written op-ed columns for the Oklahoma Gazette.
